Wichita police say the death early Saturday of a 26-year-old man found on the steps in front of his southeast Wichita home was probably an accident. Derek F. Johnson, 26 of 3509 S Everett, was found dead from head injuries about 11:30 a.m. Saturday, police said. Detectives investigating the death said Capt. Donald Ipsen, “concluded it was probably an accident.” Ipsen said Johnson who was a machinist for Wolfe Machine, Inc., had been at a local nightclub Friday night. Investigations show he apparently slipped on ice in front of his house, hit his head and bled profusely. An autopsy will be performed this morning, Ipsen said.
