Dies in Crash
Of 3 Vehicles

A 17-year-old Wichita girl became the city's 22nd traffic fatality this year in a three-car crash Tuesday morning in the 500 block of McLean Blvd.
Colleen Frances Hendershot, 1839 S. Main, a West High School senior, was killed in the crash near the intersections of Millwood and Fern.
Police said Miss Hendershot's car was westbound on McLean when it skidded broadside on a curve and struck an eastbound car driven by Betty J. Lippincott, 50, Wichita, and a pickup druck driven by Gene Payne, 42, Wichita.
TWO PASSENGERS in the Lippincott car, Sharon and Karen Potter, both 17 and students at West, were taken to St. Francis Hospital.
Karen was listed in serious condition in the hospital's intensive care unit with chest injuries and facial cuts. Sharon was treated for for facial cuts and released. Mrs. Lippincott was listed in fair condition at Osteopathic Hospital with possible fractures to her ribs and right leg, and head and back injuries.
SERVICES FOR Miss Hendershot will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Cochran Mortuary.
Survivors include her step-father and mother, Rev. and Mrs. Charles C. Miller; two brothers, Roy Wesley Hendershot, Mississippi, and Duane Hendershot, Wichita; two sisters, Mrs. Betty Plhak, Fort Worth, Tex., and Mrs. Jeanne Sexton, Wichita; a grandmother, Mrs. Lorene Smith, Dalhart, Tex., and a great-grandmother, Mrs. Minnie Watson, Sheldon, Mo.

I remember her from being Willie Bell's girlfriend.  Willie was one of best sprinters back in the day.  I felt so bad for him.  She was a nice person.

I had the good fortune of attending all years of school with Colleen Hendershot, Karen and Sharon Potter. I had a crush on Colleen about 6th Grade and found reasons to pedal my bike to her house often. I was truly saddened to learn of that fateful day and Collleen's and Karen's passing and have thought about both of them often over the years.
