Obituary for Hedy Joy Cantrell (Hartville)
Hedy Joy Cantrell, daughter of Tommy and Yum King Wong, was born June 25, 1956 in Wichita, Kansas. She departed this life Thursday, April 7, 2016 in her home, Springfield, Missouri, at the age of fifty-nine years, nine months, and thirteen days.
Hedy was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her partner in life, Jerry Cantrell, of Springfield, Missouri; three children, Lazarus Hardin, of Springfield, Missouri, Max Cantrell and wife Megan, of Springfield, and Jessica Cantrell, of Socorro, New Mexico; a grandchild, Raven Hardin; her siblings, Steffen Wong, of Topeka, Kansas, Irene Jeffreys, of Mansfield, Texas, Roger Wong, of Wichita, Kansas, and Wanda Wong and husband, Shad, of Loveland, Colorado; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Hedy was born in Wichita and was a graduate of West High School. She met Jerry, and they moved to Springfield when Hedy was twenty-one years old. She attended Missouri State University and later finished her education at Ozarks Technical Community College.
She worked as a waitress for a period of time, but devoted herself to being a loving mother and caretaker for her family.
She enjoyed traveling and riding motorcycles with Jerry. In her spare time, Hedy loved to sew, cross-stitch, cook, and care for her plants. She loved animals, especially dogs and cats, and enjoyed time spent with her family and friends.
Hedy was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will treasure the many wonderful memories she has created for her family and many dear friends.
